
William Chiume.
William Chiume is the co-founder of EA Economics. Before taking up EAE full time mid 2008, William was the Director of Investment Promotion with the Tanzania Investment Centre, a government agency of the United Republic of Tanzania responsible for investment promotion and facilitation. At TIC, William was the leading figure behind Targeted Approach Campaign, an initiative established based on systematic approach of increasing FDI in line with the priorities of the Government and where Tanzania has the best propositions.
He attained a BA (Honors) degree in Economics at Lehman College, City University of New York in 1994 with a minor in Computer Science. William pursued a career in banking in the Northeast USA working for Citizen Bank New Hampshire before achieving an MA in Economics from the University of New Hampshire in 2000.
Even before completing his graduate studies at the University of New Hampshire, William was hired by the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) in Albany, New York and started working the first week of January 2004 as a Load Forecasting Analyst. NYISO is an agency mandated by the US Federal Government to operate the New York State electric grid and the wholesale electric market. As a Load Forecasting Analyst, William was involved in short-term day-ahead electric load forecast as well as long-term planning of the power sector needs of New York; a position requiring executing state-of-the-art econometric and time-series forecasting models. While with the NYISO, William went on to complete an MBA in International Finance in 2003 at Union College, Schenectady.
William joined Globeleq, a majority shareholder of Songas Tanzania, in 2004 taking up dual roles: Business Development Manager for Globeleq and Corporate Finance Manager for Songas. His duties included financial modeling and project development for various power projects in East Africa. William was instrumental in the capital restructuring of the Songas Project, and also completion of the Ubungo Expansion Project. He also held a Directorship position with one of the power companies in Kenya where Globeleq had minority stake.
